Emily King, CITP|FIBP, has had quite the eventful career. After spending several years working with DFAIT (now DFATD) across the Middle East and taking responsibility for several of Canada’s dealings with the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), she’s now working as a Trade Commissioner in Halifax, assisting aerospace and defence companies across Atlantic Canada.

How vital is government intervention to international trade growth?

Indeed, it is the countries with the greatest international trade infrastructure where trade really thrives. This is not to suggest that governments alone are responsible for the promotion and expansion of international business, but rather, that it doesn’t hurt to have them on your side.

Intensive training for Canada’s Trade Commissioners to start soon

In less than five years, over 100 Canadian Trade Commissioners have worked their way through the FITTskills online training program. Another 65 are currently training. FITTskills focuses on best practices in international business, and helps develop practical knowledge and skills that global trade professionals can apply to their jobs immediately.
