Position: Specialist, Global Trade Compliance

Location: Montreal, QC

Description: The Specialist, Global Trade Compliance will execute processes to ensure compliance with government customs laws through a thorough understanding and application of these laws and to provide complete integration of these laws into the company’s current operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the import and export operations in compliance with internal processes and applicable rules and regulations from US and Canada governments
  • Support the approval and issuance of certificates of origin (i.e. NAFTA) for import and export
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of the different documents used in the customs clearance process
  • Coordinate Air & Ocean Cargo movement
  • Support departmental accounting functions
  • Solve customs clearance problems
  • Answer general questions related to international transactions (mostly Canada and the USA)
  • Work with foreign suppliers on compliance issues
  • Submit and/or explain customs compliance documents based on specific requests
  • Participate in other tasks and projects related to the Global Trade Compliance department

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in tasks related to customs operations, classification or transportation/logistics required
  • College or university education in customs or a related field an asset
  • Professional designation (CITP®|FIBP®, P.LOG, CCS) an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of import/export and related trade regulations and the ability to understand other regulations (OGD) preferred
  • Fluent in English with a functional understanding/ability to communicate in French
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel. Intermediate knowledge of Access software
  • Autonomous with proven ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical information to external and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to autonomously make decisions within the scope of the position and to know when to seek additional information
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and with teams
