Position: International Logistics Compliance Manager

Location: Calgary, AB

Description: The International Logistics Compliance Manager will design and implement a policy framework to ensure best practices for international logistics, as well as implement a global trade compliance program to meet US, Canadian and International regulatory requirements for import, export, trade sanctions, and customs issues. They will also direct, manage, coordinate, and control all inventory management and controls for the company worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a policy framework to ensure best practices for international logistics
  • Implement a global trade compliance program to meet US, Canadian and International regulatory requirements for import, export, trade sanctions, and customs issues
  • Direct, manage, coordinate, and control all inventory management and controls for the Company worldwide
  • Champion best practices to improve cost and process efficiency
  • Develop and manage freight forwarder and customs agent relationships globally
  • Assure that all third party logistics providers are operating in accordance with agreements and company policies
  • Assure that complete import and export procedures, standard shipping instructions and destination profiles are established for destination countries
  • Establish partnerships/strong relationships with other departments to build standard procedures, controls, practices, and systems
  • Coordinate the freight supply with key material suppliers and assist the Strategic Sourcing Management Group in developing the terms and conditions for freight management, capacity, timelines, and cost reduction
  • Partner with key freight and logistics providers to drive cost reduction, time reduction, quality of product and documentation as well as maintain key compliance requirements for freight and transportation, both inbound and outbound
  • Develop adequate staff of skilled and trained people in all regions capable of managing international shipments originating in their local regions
  • Continually train staff on latest logistics and compliance policies

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years global logistics/trade compliance experience including global transportation, logistics/freight forwarding and regulatory compliance including import/export, warehousing, distribution, duty brokerage, and customs in progressively senior positions
  • Demonstrated ability to improve costs in freight/duties related to international shipping
  • Strong analytical, financial, and P&L skills
  • In depth knowledge of key supply chain/logistic processes and current best practices
  • Effective communication with a solid track record for effective management and development of a team
  • Solid understanding of international commerce and commercial terms
  • Extensive experience in rate negotiations with air and ocean carriers
  • Extensive knowledge in trade compliance
  • Exposure to both US and Canadian trade regulations preferred
