Position: Export Cargo Specialist
Location: Richmond, BC
Description: Canaan Shipping is a Canadian-owned International Freight Forwarding organization. We are currently seeking 1 highly motivated and experienced Export Cargo Specialist to work in our growing company. Experience and knowledge of International Ocean Exports are required. This position will be responsible for general customer service in International Ocean Exports and maintain daily contact with key client contacts and vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to customer requests for quotes, rates, bookings, documents and other inquiries in a timely manner and enter information in our internal database system.
- Coordinate and communicate consistently with clients, ocean carriers, vendors, and other service providers to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment
- Deal with overseas affiliate offices on the export shipments.
- Ensure all export documents are received/ submitted before the deadline date.
- Prepare and process insurance certificates, certificates of origin, shipper’s Export/Import declarations, customs invoices, and all other related Export documents.
- Maintain quality results by following export standards, procedures, and regulations.
- Issue, track and complete bookings from start to finish.
- Provide excellent and timely customer service by informing clients of the status of their bookings/documents and respond promptly and professionally to customer needs and requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge of International Ocean Exports is required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Second Language (Cantonese, Mandarin, and Japanese) preferred but not required.
- Minimum typing speed: 45 wpm with accuracy.
- Computer skills; Microsoft Office, email, Internet Explorer, etc. and ability to learn proprietary business software applications.
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize work load in order to meet numerous deadlines.
- Positive attitude, friendly, outgoing personality.
- Willingness to learn and ask questions.
- Familiarization with shipping hazardous material preferred, but not required.
- Experience with container Ocean Imports is an asset.
