About the position:

Reporting to the Director Customer Service & Supply Chain, the Trade Compliance Manager has overall responsibility to build and maintain a robust trade compliance program infrastructure. They will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive policies and procedures, ensuring our operations remain compliant with trade regulations. A key aspect of this role involves fostering a culture of compliance across the organization while actively supporting the business in navigating complex trade challenges.

This role can be based in any of our Canadian office locations.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and build a robust trade compliance program infrastructure
  • Establish a comprehensive set of policies, procedures, training programs, and monitoring systems.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant import and export regulations, including identifying applicable laws, conducting risk assessments, developing clear guidelines.
  • Develop strategies and processes to streamline cross-border operations and reduce delays.
  • Strengthen relationship with customs broker while holding broker accountable to service levels.
  • Provide guidance, leadership and oversight to the trade compliance team, ensuring their performance aligns with company objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Support trade team import/export trade reviews on materials, including assigning classification codes and country of origin to materials based on the latest rules and regulations.
  • Ensure document retention and record keeping following Canadian Customs and Univar Solutions company policies
  • Collaborate with internal compliance groups to keep product moving into Canada and throughout North America
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

What we would like from you:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade or a related field
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS)
  • 5+ years’ experience in Canadian and/or Global trade compliance management preferred.
  • Strong program and/or project management skills
  • Experience in program requirements definition, together with data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements
  • Leadership skills to motivate and develop team members with strong communication skills, clear expectations, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with various levels of management.
  • Proactive in recognizing and adjusting to shifting priorities.
  • Self-motivated and directed, capable of operating autonomously
  • Excellent analytical, audit, organization skills including ability to collect, structure, analyze and communicate data
  • Bilingual (French / English) is considered an asset

 

Pay and Benefits:

The annual expected salary range for this position is $110,000 – 150,000 The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
