About the role

On-site | Full-time

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to manage logistics and inventory for goods and equipment used by labs in Canada and internationally. Working alongside the Warehouse Lead, you’ll oversee receiving, inspecting, counting, tracking, and storing supplies at the Supplies & International Orders Warehouse in North Vancouver. This role involves ensuring consistent inventory processes, managing re-shipment of materials globally, and coordinating with operations, finance, and management teams. You will report to both the Warehouse Lead and the Procurement & Supply Chain Assistant Manager for Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and handle all aspects of global shipping, drop shipping, receiving, storage, container pickup at ports and handle ALS brokers, ocean shipment suppliers and get quotes on behalf of ALS.
  • Update and maintain procedure manuals for global shipping and receiving.
  • Ensure all international shipments are scheduled and completed without any delays, timely follow-up on all queries and questions.
  • Ensure the most cost effective and efficient methods of shipment are used.
  • Oversee the selection and scheduling of common carriers to ensure on-time and cost-effective delivery of all shipments.
  • Maintain international shipping & receiving and storage records for company goods and supplies and ensure necessary invoices and paperwork are forwarded to the accounting department in a timely manner.
  • Ensure receiving records are complete and accurate.
  • Ensure accuracy of data entry during receiving process and inventory management.
  • Ensure incoming supply shipments are delivered to the proper departments in a timely manner.
  • Prepare packaging for outgoing shipments while ensuring proper protection of goods.
  • Work closely with Procurement to handle all international shipments in a timely manner.
  • Proper handling of dangerous goods and TDG certification.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining all department specific documentation, including ISO documentation, receiving records, inventory counts, customs documentation, and import/export information as needed.
  • Actively identifies cost saving and waste reduction opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to domestic and international shipping rules and regulations and all required pertinent paperwork.
  • Cross-train staff in duties and policies to ensure smooth operation.
  • Help lead the logistics team and respond to inquiries in managers absence.
  • Follow all company operating procedures, quality standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.
  • Play an active role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during the day-to-day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
  • Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About you:

  • The ability to persevere in the face of challenges and exhibit a resolve toward continuous improvement of the supply chain function.
  • Lead by example and drive the organization’s performance while being open to feedback and self-improvement.
  • Strong Communication – Written and Oral.
  • Excellent prioritization skills under minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, high volume team environment.
  • Advanced Computer Skills – Microsoft Excel, Databases, ERP (Oracle an asset) and MS Office.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask between many goals and strategies.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in inventory management, logistics, or related fields.
  • Comprehension of logistics terms and processes for the different modes of transportation.
  • BA or BS degree, or DipT in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, International Trade and Transportation or related field (preferred).
  • Valid full Provincial Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required).
  • Forklift license and experience operating a narrow isle forklift an asset (on site certification will be required).
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety including OH&S legislation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of International Customs compliance and CUSMA shipping regulations.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Ability to stand a full shift;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, and kneeling;
  • Comfortable in environments with high dust and noise levels;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day;
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.

  • An estimated hourly pay ranging from $28.02 – $31.21 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
